He is the Head of Research and Access at Sapphire Medical Clinics, an award-winning medical cannabis clinic in the United Kingdom. Here he leads on the development and analysis of the UK Medical Cannabis Registry, the largest bespoke clinical registry for patients treated with medical cannabis in Europe. Since 2019, he and colleagues have published outcomes on chronic pain, anxiety, and palliative care in several prestigious journals.
He holds an honorary Clinical Research Fellowship with the Department of Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College within the Medical Cannabis Research Group. His research focuses on the cannabis plant and its potential therapeutic roles, with a focus on pain, inflammation, and cancer. In addition to studying cannabidiol and tetrahydrocannabinol he has a particular interest in the study of minor cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes.
In addition to his research into medical cannabis, Simon is also a Clinical Research Fellow at University College London where he studies early cancer diagnosis within the context of Rapid Diagnostic Centres (RDCs). RDCs are new cancer diagnosis pathways for patients where GPs may refer patients if they are concerned they may have cancer, but have symptoms that are not specific for a particular type of cancer and require a broader assessment.
