You can make the most of cacao’s superfood status by making your hot chocolate with cacao powder. Using a barista-style oat milk will also give you a luxuriously creamy hot chocolate that’s suitable for anyone who follows a plant-based diet.

Add the milk, coconut sugar and vanilla pod (cut lengthways), to a sauce pan and heat over medium-low heat
Bring the pan to a simmer and stir until the coconut sugar has dissolved and milk is infused with the vanilla
Add the cacao powder to a bowl and add a few tablespoons of the hot milk and stir until smooth
Add the cacao paste to the rest of the milk and stir until combined
