What is self-care?
Self-care is a term for all the little (or big) things we do for ourselves that make us feel good, relaxed, and ready to take on life.
This can include everything from:
- Taking time out for our hobbies
- Getting a massage
- Having fun with our family and friends
- Aromatherapy
- Pampering ourselves with our favourite beauty goodies
- Taking a long bath
- Meditating
- Yoga
- Making sure we eat healthy, delicious food
- Sleeping well
- Reading
Why is self-care important at Christmas?
It may be the most wonderful time of the year, but the festive season can bring stresses of its own. According to a YouGov survey, 51% of women and 35% of men say they find Christmas stressful.1
Planning, financial struggles, or unwanted memories can mean it’s even more important to take care of yourself. And even those feeling good over the holidays can get swept up and forgo a little “me-time”.
What to buy someone who is into mindfulness?
Mindfulness is being able to be fully present in the moment and aware of our surroundings and how we’re feeling in each moment. Staying mindful can help you calm down and avoid becoming overwhelmed.2
It can be tricky for people to spend money on their own mindfulness sometimes, so why not treat a loved one?
If you are buying a present for someone into this practice, you may want to consider calming gifts for mindfulness, like:
- Essential oils
- Mindful activities, like colouring books
- Books about mindfulness
- Incense
- Aroma diffusers
- Crystals
- Candles
- Meditation equipment, e.g., yoga mats
- Meditation music
Self-care gifts are truly different for everybody: what matters is that you’ve thought about the person you’re buying for and discovered how they like to relax. There’s no set way to practice self-care, so don’t feel pressured to spend your time and money on methods that don’t benefit you.
